Vogel Captures Dirt Race Central Street Stock Tour at Sheyenne

tombergie01

Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon hosted the Dirt Race Central Street Stock Tour presented by Shocker Hitch on Thursday. A strong 22-car street stock field was in attendance as part of a good 80-car field.

It was a fast track with some moisture, which is different than the usual slick surface at Sheyenne. I thought the racing was good.

Kyle Anderson of Jamestown and Trey Hess of Grand Forks led the 22-car Wissota Street Stock field to green. Anderson would take the early lead as the Wolverine Justin Vogel of Brooten and Hess battled for second. Kyle Genett was fourth with Jonny Carter of Lisbon battling on his outside. The caution would wave for a spin on the frontstretch.

On the restart Vogel powered past Anderson on the outside for the lead as Carter and Hess fought hard for third. Genett and Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks close behind.

Anderson stayed within striking distance of Vogel with 16 to go as Genett got by Jonny Carter for third. Pederson was battling for fifth with Hess.

Vogel was starting to pull away when the caution waved for a spin in turn four. On the restart Genett moved into second as Jonny Carter went to work on Anderson for third.

Genett, meanwhile was running a lower line working Vogel, who was working the middle lane. Hess and Carter were fighting hard for fourth.

Vogel was running a great line, just below the top, and was pulling away from Genett, who had his hands full with Anderson for third. Carter and Hess put on a great show for fourth while Pederson and Jaden Christ of Jamestown fought for sixth.

Vogel was pulling away from Genett who was facing a good challenge from Anderson in third.

Hunter Carter of Mapleton – who started 21st – was working into the top eight.. The track seemed very good for the street stocks, as multiple lanes were being utilized.

Vogel would go on to take a 1.511 second win over Genett, who outlasted Anderson for second in what was a bood battle. Jonny Carter and Hess rounded out the top five. Hunter Carter was the Hard Charger, going from 21st to eighth.

Aaron Michel of Jamestown and Zach Reinke of Lisbon led the Wissota Midwest Modified field to the green. The race did not get off to a good start as those two made contact up front, and it led to a chain reaction as Tony Smith of Jamestown and Phil Christlieb were among the cars suffering damage. Reinke was charged with the caution.

Kyle Langland of Enderlin, who was part of an outstanding three-car battle last week at Sheyenne, jumped into the lead as Nate Reinke of Lisbon moved into second past Michel. Jaren Wibstad of Jamestown had moved into fourth.

Reinke would get by Langland on the restart as Wibstad would follow into second. Jarod Klein of Jamestown, last week’s winner, was working on Michel for third. Alex Langland of Enderlin and Lucas Rodin of Marion were closing on the top five.

Nate Reinke had about a 2-car length lead on Wibstad, who was closing. Wibstad went to the outside and raced Reinke side by side for the lead as they encountered a lapped car.

Wibstad, who won the opening night of the Rebel Midwest Mod Tour last week at Norman County Raceway, started to pull away as Kyle Langland was pressuring Reinke for the runner-up spot.

Klein was solidly in fourth, ahead of fifth-place Michel.

Wibstad had opened nearly a straightaway lead on Nate Reinke, but a spin out in turn two would wipe that out with two to go. On the restart Nate Reinke made acharge on the bottom but Wibstad was a bit faster in turns three and four and would pull away.

Former national champion Lucas Rodin had quietly worked into the top five.

Wibstad would pull away late to pick up the win, while Klein made a late surge past Nate Reinke for second. Rodin would top Langland for fourth. Zach Reinke, who went to the tail, made a nice comeback up to seventh.

Dylan Steele of Jamestown took the early lead in the INEX Legends feature, but Collin Compson of Valley City and Bo Gregor of Lisbon were in hot pursuit. Compson would take the lead with 18 to go. Sean Johnson of Kindred, who started ninth but was charging, passed both Gregor and Steele for second. The caution would wave for a car off of turns three and four.

They wouldn’t make it through the next lap when there was a multi-car pileup in turn four after some contact. Taylor Sargent and Ty Olson saw their nights come to an end with damage as both left on the hook.

After a lengthy cleanup, Compson resumed the lead over Johnson. Dusty Mund moved into fourth and was working on Gregor for third.

Johnson was keeping right on Compson’s bumper as Gregor and Mund had a great battle for third. Steele, a former Hobby Stock driver, settled into fifth. The caution would wave with 10 to go for a spin.

Zander Compson, driving the #9 car, went to work on Mund for fourth on the restart. Cautions plagued the race, unfortunately as every time the battle up front heated up between Johnson and Compson.

Compson, Mund and Johnson went three-wide for the top spot with seven to go as the top three put on a heck of a show for a couple of laps. Compson had a few car lengths on Johnson with three to go.

It heated up on the final lap as Johnson made a big charge on the inside. It didn’t look like they made contact on the video but was very, very close.. Compson would slide high and spun in turn four as Johnson would edge Mund for the win by .135 seconds in a thrilling finish. Gregor was third, Zander Compson fourth and Trevor Sahr of Jamestown, who quietly put together a good night, finishing fifth after starting 13th.

Sheyenne might need to put a bounty on Jayden Michaelsohn of Aberdeen in the Hobby Stocks. He made it four feature wins in a row at the ¼-mile oval. Cade Gentzkow led the opening lap over Ryan Mund of Lisbon.

MIchaelsohn, who started fifth, was on a rail from the start as it took him two laps to move from fifth to the top spot.

Kelby Anderson moved into third with Tyce Boisjolie of Enderlin running fourth. Mund and Anderson had a good battle for third as Michaelsohn pulled away.

Gentzkow was running well in second as Anderson moved into third. Mund and Billy Carow of Jamestown battled for fourth. Michaelsohn, meanwhile was on cruise control as he topped Gentzkow by 2.687 seconds. Anderson was third, Mund fourth and Carow fifth in a caution free main event.

Pokey Lukes of Lisbon and Chandler Dick of Lisbon led the Mini Stocks to the green. Dick took the lead over Hunter Goulet of Fargo, who quickly moved into second. Lukes was third as Mason Bogart of Milnor was closing in on third along with John Heacox of Lisbon.

Chandler Dick had built some breathing room over Goulet as Bogart moved into third and Heacox into fourth. Bogart and Goulet put on a great show for second but were well behind Dick, who had a straightaway on the field.

Dick won by a straightaway with Bogart edging Goulet for second. Heacox was fourth while Lukes was fifth.

Only six Wissota Mods were on hand with former national champion Mike Stearns of Aberdeen and Tim Thomas of Fargo led the field. Stearns took the early lead over Joseph Thomas of Fargo, who was the point leader going into the night.

Thomas went to work on Stearns for the lead as and would take over the top spot with 15 to go. Derek Hanson was working to close in on Thomas for fourth.

Brent Pulskamp of Wahpeton, making his season debut would pull in with an issue about midway through the race. ON the restart Thomas built a decent lead over Stearns and would maintain it til the end to take the win. Stearns was second, Tim Thomas was third and Hanson was fourth.

Sheyenne/Thursday Notes

Tim Compson of Valley City, father of INEX Legends drivers Collin and Zander, was racing in the Wissota Midwest Modified class. He held his own and was running near the top five but pulled in.

Pulskamp took the 2022 season off; he has raced in the limited late models and modifieds previously.

Tempest Trone of Litchville made his debut in the Wissota Street Stocks. He had raced in the Mini Stocks previously.

Jarrett Carter of Lisbon was doing double duty – driving the No. 91 Wissota Midwest Modified and also driving his dad’s #19 Wissota Street Stock.

Rich Pavlicek of Casselton won the 40-lap IMCA Sport Mod feature Thursday at Red River Valley Speedway. That race was part of the World of Outlaws Late Model special at RRVS. Mike Marlar won that race.

Tucker Tschakert of Kent was second, Nathan Speten of Wilton was third and Christopher Zens of Max fourth. Only 10 of the 23 starters finished.
