Gregor, Greseth, Reinke, Weight and Trone post Sheyenne feature victories

It was a beautiful night at Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon, which was back in action for the first time since late June. The temp was around 80, little humidity and a nice breeze, probably the nicest night I’ve been at a track all year.
Sheyenne’s car counts have been solid all year with 56 cars on hand in five classes, which included three heats of Wissota Midwest Modifieds and two heats each of the Hobby Stocks, Wissota Street Stocks and INEX Legends. That seems to be a very manageable car count for Sheyenne, which was done in 2 ½ hours once again.
The track had some character, not surprising considering there hadn’t been a race there in six weeks. Hopefully some work this week will remedy that for next weeks show.
After an early caution ended the night for Cade Gentzkow and James Throener, the Hobby Stock feature race resumed with season point leader Brent Wilkinson of Jamestown led former track champion Bo Gregor of Lisbon but on the move was Brody Michaelsohn of Wishek, who climbed to third after the yellow. Dillon Thorpe was in fourth and Ryker Vetter, who won a feature at Sheyenne earlier this year, was in fifth.
Gregor was all over Wilkinson for the lead as those two were about 1.3 seconds ahead of Michaelsohn, who won at Jamestown on Saturday. Thorpe and Vetter stayed close to the 18M
Gregor made the pass with six to go and started to pull away from Wilkinson, opening up a half-second lead with four to go. He would add to the lead slowly to pick up the win by .870 seconds and gain a little ground on Wilkinson in the points race.
Wilkinson settled for second. Michaelsohn was third, Thorpe fourth and Vetter in fifth. After the early caution the race was green-to-checkered, nice job.
A solid 10-car Wissota Street Stock field was on hand and it was a tough night for several.
The Wissota Street Stock feature, which saw a $300 bounty on Cole Greseth, did not get off to a good start as Kasey Ussatis of Nome appeared to break and spun hard, and Joey Banish had nowhere to go and was collected. Both drivers went off on the hook.
Unfortunately the second attempt at the start fared no better. Adam Dehne of Medina went around in turn two and collected the 77D of Joe Deede and the 16 of Andrew White. Dehne, who has run well of late, was done and pushed to the pits while Deede left on the hook.. White was able to continue.
While there was a longer yellow to take care of Dehne and Deede, Ussatis was able to go to the pit work area and get his 2U repaired and he would rejoin the field, which was down to seven cars, at the tail.
Greseth quickly opened a 1.2 second lead on Mike Mund of Milnor with Jayden Michaelsohn of Aberdeen in third and Ryan Mund of Lisbon in fourth. Bob Banish Jr. was running in fifth but pressuring Ryan Mund. Banish would eventually take the fourth spot.
Greseth’s lead grew to 3.2 seconds with 12 to go, with Mike Mund still in second and Michaelsohn third. Greseth saw a more than four second lead vanish with eight to go as Michaelsohn went around in turn two; he would leave on the hook.
Banish grabbed second on the restart with Greseth still in front. Ussatis was now in the top five with Andrew White chasing him.
White would spun in turn four to bring out the caution with four to go, but didn’t appear to have much damage, but since the yellow/black had been waved, his night was done.
Mike Mund regained second on the restart but had Banish on his heels as Ussatis and Ryan Mund battled for fourth. Greseth, meanwhile had no worries at the front, winning by two seconds for win #26 on 2026. In 43 starts, he has 40 top fives and 26 wins. As of Aug. 13 he was seven points behind Levi Randt in the national standings but picked up three wins this weekend, and those are what are most valuable to him at this point. Mike Mund was second, Banish third, Ryan Mund fourth and Ussatis was fifth.
Zach Reinke of Lisbon led his son Regan early in the INEX Legend feature with Tyler Anglin of Aberdeen third and Gregor, doing double-duty, in fourth. Gregor would move into third as Anglin was trying to fend off Mason Lemar of Casselton.
The caution came out on lap four as Gregor went around in turn two; he would head to the tail.
Zach Reinke led his son by a slim margin as Anglin moved into third. By lap 7 Regan Reinke passed his dad for the top spot as Lemar moved into third. Anglin was fourth and Gregor, who had gone to the tail, climbed back to fifth.
The Reinkes were racing hard for the lead and by the halfway point Regan had less than a car length lead. Gregor was challenging Lemar for the third spot while Anglin slid back to fifth.
Lapped traffic played a factor allowing Regan Reinke to stretch his lead to 1.1 seconds over his dad. Jeremy Meyer had climbed to fifth and was battling Anglin. Zach Reinke caught his son but couldn’t make the pass as Regan prevailed by .219 seconds. Zach Reinke settled for second, Gregor third, Lemar fourth and Anglin edged Meyer for fifth.
Brennon Weight of LaMoure is having a big-time summer in his #28 Wissota Midwest Modified. He won the $10,000 to win special out in Sheridan, Wyoming in June and also won the $3,000 to win Golden Hammer at Devils Lake. On Sunday he absolutely dominated the 20-lap feature.
Weight took the early lead over Ryan Ost of Adrian with Zander Compson of Valley City running third. Nate Reinke of Lisbon was fourth and Kyle Anderson of Jamestown was in fifth. The caution flew on Lap 2.
From there, Weight just took off. By lap 9 his lead was up to 3.6 seconds over Ost. Compson and Anderson were dueling for third with Reinke in fourth. Long-time veteran Scott Hansen of Garden City, S.D., making his first Sheyenne appearance of the year, was running in the top six. Hansen is a good runner down at Casino Speedway and at South Dakota tracks.
With seven to go, the rout was on as Weight stretched his lead to 5.5 seconds. Anderson and Compson had a great fight for third with Anderson inching ahead at that point.
There was no catching Weight, who won by 7.6 seconds – or nearly a half a lap. Ost was second, Anderson, the point leader, third, Reinke got around Compson for fourth.frfaduj
Tempest Trone of Litchville hadn’t raced all year, but he sure made a nice season debut.
Trone took the lead but Dale Mittleider was staying close. Heacox was third, Taylor foruth and Roeder was fifth.
Trone had about 2-3 car lengths on Mittleider, who entered the night as the point leader at Sheyenne. Mittleider had about four seconds on third-place Heacox, who had Roeder close behind.
Trone’s lead grew to almost a second with three to go. Roeder was looking to make a pass of Heacox for third but ran out of laps.
Trone won by 1.6 seconds, so it was quite a season debut I’d say. Mittleider solidified his point lead with a runner-up finish. Heacox was a solid third, Roeder fourth and Brock Kuzel rounded out the top five. The caution-free race lasted less than four minutes.
Sheyenne Notes
--Todd Wallner went off of turn four and hit one of the fence posts hard in his Wissota Midwest Modified heat race. The 2SQ machine had some damage but so it the fence posts, which were repaired at intermission to at least get through the evening. Wallner was able to get his machine repaired and he ran the feature and finished.
--Speaking of the Wissota Midwest Modified class, Kody Machart of Moorhead had a hard impact during his heat race and had some significant front suspension damage, ending his night.
--Andrew White, mentioned earlier, is fairly new to the Wissota Street Stock ranks. He ran a handful of shows last year and this year has raced 12 times with one top five finish. He was in a good battle with Ussatis when he spun. He is the younger brother of former IMCA Hobby Stock driver Alyssa White.
