Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon was back in action Sunday night as it wrapped up the first half of its 2026 season before taking a hiatus in July.
Â
Sheyenne’s car counts have been solid for the most part. They had two heats in every class except the Short Trackers, which to me is a good weekly goal for them. The Wissota Midwest Modifieds, usually around 15 cars a night, had the night off as the IMCA Modifieds were back in town for a second straight week.
I have to hand it to Sheyenne Speedway drivers and officials. The shows have been getting done at a great time -- this night was 8:09 p.m. -- and it has taken the effort of everyone involved to make this thing work. Having manageable car counts plays a role, too — if they had 20 cars in each class nightly it would be awful tough getting done in a little over two hours. But the delays between races and yellows have been reduced and every one of those minutes is one minute earlier folks are on the road.
It was a little different track at Sheyenne this week -- it's usually drier, this one was a little tackier with the humidity in the air. It led to a pretty fast track.
Â
There was added money on the line for the Wissota Street Stocks. RaceChaser blog added $350 to the top five spots of the street feature; in addition there was a $200 bounty to anyone who could beat Cole Greseth, who has been red hot at the area tracks this year. I was hoping for about 15 street stocks but 12 is a good solid number.
Â
Jayden Michaelsohn of Aberdeen emerged as the early leader in the Wissota Street Stock feature over Cole Greseth, but it wasn’t long before Greseth grabbed the lead. Like about two laps. The caution came out three laps into the feature for Tony Smith of Jamestown who had spun and would head to the tail.
Â
On the restart Mike Mund of Lisbon took over second as Michaelsohn and Kasey Ussatis of Nome were locked in a fight for third with Darek Turner of Fargo close on to that bunch. Soon Turner moved into fourth with Hunter Carter of Lisbon right behind him. Greseth meanwhile was blowing the field away by more than 3.5 seconds.
Â
Turner was running well but would pull off with an issue shortly before halfway. The caution would come out as Carter spun in turn two with 10 laps to go. Greseth’s big lead was long gone, but that was only a temporary setback. He quickly pulled away on the restart as Mund was challenged by Ussatis for second. Adam Dehne of Medina had climbed to fifth behind Michaelsohn.
Â
Greseth was in his own area code, leading by three seconds with fourto go as Mund and Ussatis continued to battle for second. Dehne had Carter and Smith on his heels for fifth.
Â
This was a no-doubter for Greseth who won by 4.7 seconds in as dominant a street stock performance as I’ve seen all year.  Mund edged Ussatis for second with Michaelsohn fourth and Smith, who had gone to the tail edging Carter for fifth to cap off a nice comeback.  For Greseth, who will be in a fight for the national title with drivers like Keith Tourville and Levi Randt, it was his 15th win in 22 starts this year.  His worst finish of the year is third.
Â
Ryker Vetter of Wishekgrabbed the early lead in the Hobby Stock/Bomber feature over Matthew Stoppleworth. Bo Gregor of Lisbon, last week’s winner, was lurking in the top three and pressuring Stoppleworth. I honestly did not see who caused the yellow.
Â
Vetter continued in front of the field with Matthew Stoppleworth in second and Dylan Stoppleworth of Ypsilanti in third. Gregor was working on Dylan Stoppleworth for third while Braiden Mund was running fifth.
Â
Vetter had about a 1.2 second lead on Matthew Stoppleworth of Ypislanti; the best battle was for third between Dylan Stoppleworth and Gregor. Mund was facing some pressure from Brett Wilkinson of Jamestown for the fifth spot.
Â
Vetter’s lead grew to 1.5 seconds with four laps to go as Matthew Stoppleworth and Dylan Stoppleworth now were dueling for second; there was some contact that caused Gregor to slid back from that battle. Vetter had no issues up front, dominating for a four-second win. Matthew Stoppleworth held on for second while Dylan Stoppleworth was third. Gregor was fourth and Wilkinson made a late move around Mund for fifth.
Â
Wilkinson is the point leader in the Hobby Stocks, and held a four-point lead going into the night over Dillon Thorpe of Ellendale who was not in attendance. Gregor looks to be the prime challenger for Wilkinson in the points race when racing resumes in August.
Â
Cameryn Taylor of Hankinson was the early leader in the Short Tracker feature, but Pokey Lukes slid off of turn two to bring out the first caution early in the race. Pokey was able to continue.
Â
Taylor’s night came to a disappointing end as he brought out the next caution, and would require a push to the pits. Dale Mittleider of Milnor would grab the lead with about 10 to go and had a one-second advantage over Brock Kuzel of Wyndmere. Lukes was third and Ryan Roeder of Hankinson was fourth.
Â
Kuzel didn’t let Mittleider get away but the lead stayed at about one second for much of the race. Kuzel had a three-second advantage on Lukes, who had a two-second advantage on Roeder.
Â
Kuzel did get the lead under a second but never threatened as Mittleider picked up another win. Mittleider is borrowing a car owned by Dusty Mund while he repairs his from last year – and the car has been fast all year. He entered the year with no career wins – and now has three at Sheyenne. Kuzel, Lukes and Roeder completed the finishers.
Â
As far as the small five-car field goes, I believe you keep running that class if there are four cars or 14. That class fluctuates weekly; for example, Buffalo River had six one night and on Sunday they had 14.
Â
John Miller of Alice and Lindsey Hansen of Fargo led the 12-car IMCA Modified field to green. Hansen grabbed the lap one lead over Miller. John Nord of Enderlin and Darren Pfau of West Fargo were battling for third with last week’s winner Dave Shipley of Argusville in fifth.  Hansen’s lead was about .7 seconds over Miller who soon was overtaken by Nord with 13 to go. Pfau had Shipley on his heels. The first caution waved for IMCA Mod rookie Dayton Kent, who slid off of turns three and four. Kent, a former top runner in the Hornet class, is 18 years old and learning the ropes in the mod class this year.
Â
Hansen’s 1.2 second lead over Nord was erased, setting up a duel at the front on the restart. Jordan Sours of Lisbon made a move on the restart into fifth and was applying pressure to Pfau. Nord, meanwhile, would grab the stop spot with 10 to go.
Â
Nord was pulling away to a one-second lead over Hansen, who was comfortably in second with six laps left. Sours was closing on third-place miller while Shipley and Shawn Wiest of Fargo were among the cars fighting for fifth.
Â
Nord dominated the final half of the race and pulled away steadily, having no issues with a few lapped cars. His margin of victory was 2.8 seconds over Hansen, who had a good solid run. Sours eventually got by Miller for third with Shipley rounding out the top five. The 20-lap race only had one caution and lasted about eight minutes, nice job by that group.
Â
I’ll be honest, Nord has been tough whenever I’ve seen him this year. For Sours, it was a good run after a tough week last week, when he hit a tractor tire, ending his night. Miller ran solid all night as well.
Â
I thought there might be more than a dozen IMCA Mods with Fix It Forward and Jamestown Speedways off this weekend; a few cars that were at Lisbon last week were up in Minot running as part of the World of Outlaw Late Model show.
Â
Sean Johnson of Kindred had the early lead of the INEX Legends but was under a lot of heat from Dusty Mund of Lisbon and Regan Reinke of Lisbon. Mund would take the lead as Zach Reinke of Lisbon ran fourth and Brian Frederick of Gwinner was fifth when the first caution flew with 17 to go. wi
Â
Mund pulled away at the front with Regan Reinke and Johnson racing hard side-by-side for second. Zach Reinke had some pressure from Frederick, who was soon overtaken by Bo Gregor.
Â
Regan Reinke would clear Johnson for second and was about .7 seconds behind Mund by the halfway point.  Joshua Wiest of Fargo meanwhile had moved into the top five but Gregor stayed close to him. Reinke was about .8 seconds behind Mund but had Johnson closing on him. Zach Reinke remained in the hunt for that spot. Wiest and Gregor meanwhile were fighting hard for fifth.
Â
Regan Reinke never got close enough to Mund to mount a challenge for the lead but he did close the gap to .5 seconds by the white flag. Mund would prevail for a .76 second win over Reinke for his second win of the weekend; he won Friday night at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen.
Â
Regan Reinke held off Johnson for second while Zach Reinke took third and while Wiest held off Gregor for fifth. After the caution three laps into the race, the final 17 laps went caution free.

Maria Broksieck of Goodwin captured the Wissota Street Stock feature at Casino with Jayden Bogh of Huron second. Andy Rossow of Florence was third, Jason Marko of Watertown fourth and Joe Arndt of Ortonville fifth.
Â
Tony Croninger of Watertown claimed the Gen X Late Model feature with Blake Swenson of Watertown second. Curt Kranz of Watertown was third, Tyler McFarland of Goodwin fourth and Ryan Nelson of Casselton fifth.
Nebraska driver Jack Dover won the Midwest Sprint Touring Series/NOSA feature at Casino in a race that lasted more than an hour because of several red flags. Danny Sams of North Port, Florida was second, Jade Hastings of Grand Forks was third, and Mark Dobmeier of Grand Forks — who spun early and had to go the work area — came back for fourth. Sam Henderson of Sioux Falls was fifth.
Â

Â
Wilke was 2-for-2 on the night with a victory in the IMCA Racesaver Sprints. Evan Hendrickson of Mapleton was second, Brandon Rekow of Ellendale third, Josh Johnson of Harwood fourth and Matthew Taves of Detroit Lakes fifth.
Â
Derek Quinn of Brandon won the Gen X Late Model feature over Alex Tschakert of Kent. Mike Anderson of Walcott was third, Jarrett Huus of Fergus Falls fourth and Cade Skytland of Kindred fifth.
