Trone Accomplishes Goal of Track Championship

tombergie01

Tempest Trone set a goal this season, and that was to be the Mini Stock Track Champion at Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon. Thanks to being a remarkable model of consistency, the Litchville, N.D., driver accomplished that goal.

Trone wrapped up the 2022 track championship at Sheyenne in style, winning the feature race on Sunday night. In six starts at the track, Trone had three wins, and finished second three times on his way to his first career track championship.

“Getting track champion at Sheyenne Speedway means a lot to me,” Trone, 33, said. “It means a lot to me. It just shows with hard work and time and the greatest support you could ever have paid off.”

Trone is in his second full season in the Mini Stocks. He raced five shows in 2020 before buying and building his own car for the 2021 season, with help from Justin Hainline and Neil Walton.

“I bought it for $200 and I sold the catalytic converter for $250,” Trone said.

Ironically, Trone was not a race fan to start out with. His wife, Cara would go weekly to watch her brother, Justin Hainline, race in the Mini Stocks. Hainline has since moved into the Wissota Midwest Modified class.

“She was always going to the race track to watch him, and she was trying to get me to go. I’m like, ‘I have no desire to,’” I did go one night and they actually conned me into filling in one night. Ever since then I’ve been hooked. It’s a lot of fun.”

Now only is Trone having fun, but he’s also running near the front consistently.

“It’s been going good. We haven’t had many problems with the car,” Trone said. “It’s been going smooth.”

During his successful 2021 season, Trone said his biggest wins came in sweeping the Sauerkraut 500 at Tri-County Speedway in Wishek. This season, he added a track championship.

While he’s having a successful year behind the wheel – he’s also enjoying himself in the process.

“The best thing about it is, as soon as you hit that track, all of your problems are gone,” Trone said., “You don’t think about anything, you are out there to have fun.”
