Dylan Steele liked the feeling of reaching victory lane. The Pure Stock/Bomber driver picked up his first career feature win on Aug. 17, 2019 at Jamestown Speedway.
“It was pretty awesome. I was so pumped,” Steele said.
This season, he is aiming for more wins as he races at Jamestown and Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon.
“I want to get five feature wins,” Steele said. “I want to get one in Lisbon real bad. I like that place.”
So far, the 19-year-old from Jamestown is off to a good start in 2020. This season, Steele has raced in four features and has finished in the top five all four times. He was second at Sheyenne Speedway on May 25 after placing third at Devils Lake on May 23.
“The car’s getting a lot better. I’m learning a lot more about it,” Steele said.
Steele and a friend got into racing helping long-time B modified driver Scott “Rebel” Bintz of Jamestown.
“I helped Scott Bintz and my buddy helped him at the time. That kinda kicked it off and then I bought a car of my own,” Steele said.
The 2018 campaign marked his first full season in the #22 Hobby Stock. He ran seven races at Jamestown and had five top five finishes.
His second season marked a noticeable improvement. At Jamestown last season, he was seventh in points with one win and three top five finishes. He had two top fives at Sheyenne as well and had a total of eight top five finishes on the year. In addition to the feature win on Aug. 17, another highlight was a runner-up finish at the Jamestown Stampede.
“(I’m learning) different types of tracks, and what you have to do with the car. There’s so much that goes into it,” Steele said.
Steele’s goal is to move up to another decision, perhaps the B mods, in the future
His main focus isn't on points this season, but...
“I try no to look at that too much,” Steele said. “But I’d love to win a championship.”
