Shipley, Mittleider, Gregor, Greseth and Reinke victorious at Sheyenne

Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon welcomed the IMCA Modifieds for the first time in 2026 on a pleasant evening.

Race director Todd Carter made an emphasis the first week about getting the show done in a timely matter, and it’s clearly Sheyenne officials are working hard to do that. Last week’s show got done at 8 p.m.; this week it was 8:08 p.m. when the final checkered waved. Dusty Mund and the entire group of volunteers deserve credit for making this work. It takes everyone to keep a show going – drivers keeping things clean, officials not having big delays in between races especially – so a credit to EVERYONE at Sheyenne for a quick, efficient racing program. I love getting back to Fargo by 9:15!

I will lead with the IMCA Modifieds; I was hoping for a dozen and 13 were on hand, which is perfect for a 1/4-mile track.

Jacoby Traut of Jamestown and Dave Shipley of Argusville led the IMCA Mods to the green but they didn’t make it through the first lap as mod rookie Clay Smith spin.

Shipley, who has an awful lot of laps at Sheyenne and has won previously in the IMCA Mod there, opened a one second lead over Traut who had Lindsey Hansen of Fargo  in pursuit. John Nord of Enderlin was running fourth ahead of Tim Perkins of Bismarck.

I was keeping an eye on Johnny C., John Corell, who was a DNS in his heat and started at the tail of the 13-car field; he had worked up to eighth. The caution flew on lap 5 to erase a nearly two-second lead for Shipley.

It was a tough night for Jordan Sours of Lisbon, who had high hopes at his hometown track. He struck a tractor tire and did some front-end damage to the 02, ending his night.  Corell would also end up with a DNF.

On the restart, Shipley led Traut by .8 seconds with Hansen third; Zach Nord of Enderlin had climbed to fourth with Perkins in fifth. John Nord soon regained a spot in the top five.

Shipley, meanwhile, was turning the race into a runaway. The lead was up to four seconds with four laps to go. Hansen was within a few car lengths of Traut, those two had a big advantage on fourth-place Zack Nord.

The final winning margin was five seconds for Shipley; remember he’d also raced a Wissota Super Stock there for several years and knows the place well.  Traut capped off a good run in second with Hansen solid in third. The Nords, Zack (fourth) and John (fifth), rounded out the top five.  The IMCA Mods return next week, and with Fix It Forward off, I hope there are 15-plus cars there next week.

The Hornets kicked off the features, running before intermission. Dale Mittleider of Milnor led the hornet feature with Cameryn Taylor of Hankinson running second and Brock Kuzel in third with Lison’s Pokey Lukes lurking close.

Pokey got a little too high in turn four and slid off to bring out the caution. John Heacox of Lisbon, back behind the wheel this year after a hiatus, was running fifth. That caution erased a 1.5 second lead for Mittleider.Mittleider pulled away on the restart but there’s was contact between Taylor and Lukes, sending the 28 spinning. Taylor was charged with the yellow but at that point there were five cars on the track.

For Pokey Lukes, the night started out promising with a heat race win – but he spun in the future, and then was spun later, and his 28 car was well off the pace after that. Miitleider now had Kuzel chasing him as Taylor and Heacox fought for third. Taylor would move into third but was well behind Kuzel in second. Mittleider pulled away late to pick up a 1.2 second win over Kuzel. Taylor, Heacox and Luke’s rounded out the finishers. Mittleider picked up his first career feature win earlier this year at Sheyenne. The Hornets were done with their night by 7 p.m.

Braiden Mund of Lisbon led the Hobby Stock feature but was quickly challenged by former track champion Bo Gregor of Lisbon with Brent Wilkinson of Jamestown, a top runner at Jamestown Speedway, running third.

Gregor would grab the lead on the fifth lap; the caution waved moments later for Mund’s spin in turn four.  Mund was charged with the yellow and he would end up as a DNF on the night. Dillon Thorpe of Ellendale, who was running well, also pulled off.

Wilkinson stayed within 1-2 car lengths of Gregor as Dalton Aabrekke of Lisbon ran third and James Throener of Cogswell ran fourth, not far behind Aabrekke. Gregor’s lead stood at just over a second.

Throener would go off turns three and four to bring out the yellow with three laps to go; he was able to continue. It did erase Gregor’s lead which had steadilty grown as the laps went on. Gregor got a great restart, opening up a three-car advantage quickly and wasn’t touched to pick up the win.

Wilkinson settled for second, Aabrekke held off Throener for third and Ron DeMoss was fifth.

Hunter Carter of Mapleton grabbed the lead over Mike Mund of Lisbon in the Wissota Street Stock feature. Cole Greseth of Harwood, the winner Saturday at Jamestown, was on the move and soon grabbed second and was applying heavy pressure to Carter.

Mike Mund of Lisbon was third, his son Ryan Mund not far behind in fourth and Kasey Ussatis of Nome was fifth.

By the sixth lap Greseth had taken over the lead from Carter as the top five stayed the same. Adam Dehne of Medina was close to Ussatis, who was catching Ryan Mund for third.

While it wasn’t a runaway for Greseth, he slowly built the lead to 1.3 seconds with eight to go but that was erased for a caution.

The next caution was the most damaging crash of the night. Ussatis and Jayden Michaelsohn of Aberdeen made contact out of turn four; as Ussatis worked to correct it, Ashley Wampler of Hecla was coming at full speed and had nowhere to go, sending Ussatis into the wall hard. Both cars were damaged and left on the hook.

While Greseth and Carter had their spots under control, Michaelsohn had climbed into the top three; with five to go he had moved to third ahead of Ryan Mund, with the veteran Royce Jawaski of Adrian running fifth.

Greseth pulled away on the final restart and won by 2.5 seconds over Carter. Michaelsohn had a great run from seventh to third. Ryan Mund and Jawaski rounded out the top five.

Greseth was the national runner-up in the Wissota Street Stocks a year ago and he’s taking aim at the title this year. For Hunter Carter, who has only raced three times, it was a good, solid night in second.

Randy Klein of Buffalo and Aaron Michel of Jamestown had the pole for the Wissota Midwest Modified main event.  Klein was the early leader with Nate Reinke of Lisbon in pursuit along with Jaren Wibstad of Jamestown. The first caution flew for Zane Johnson’s 3J machine.

Reinke grabbed the lead on the third lap as Wibstad and Kyle Anderson of Jamestown applied the heat on Klein for second. Michel ran in fifth. The caution few on the fifth lap to bunch the field together.

Klein would go around in turn four and Anderson spun to avoid to bring out the caution, leading the race into the yellow/black.  Klein was charged with the yellow.

Wibstad and Anderson fought for second as Reinke opened a 3-4 car length lead. Alex Langland of Lisbon was chasing Michel for fourth. Wibstad would take the spot but another caution flew for Johnson, ending his night.

The battle for second ensued on the restart before Wibstad took the spot. Reinke’s lead stood at .9 seconds with six to go. Wibstad made up a little ground on Reinke but never got close enough to mound a challenge as Reinke prevailed. Wibstad was second, Anderson third, Michel fourth and Alex Langland took fifth.

Sheyenne notes

--If the names Brandon Langer (of Alice) and John Miller (of Enderlin) sounded familiar to Sheyenne fans in attendance, it’s because they were. They both raced in the Wissota Super Stocks at the track for several years. When the class was dropped, they moved into the IMCA Modifieds and have raced in recent years at Fix It Forward Speedway in West Fargo. Miller won his heat and finished eighth in the feature but Langer was a DNF.

--It was a long trip for Jonathan Hagen from Glenwood, Minn., to Sheyenne, but it was a tough night.  He didn’t make the start of his Wissota Midwest Modified heat after incurring a problem, and took the green in the feature but pulled off with an issue.

--One surprise entrant at Sheyenne, at least to me, was Tim Jodsaas of Alexandria in the Wissota Midwest Modified. Jodsaas raced for several years at Viking Speedway in various classes; he raced twice in 2025 and once each in 2024 and 2023.

--One thing I do miss at Lisbon -- is seeing Jonny Carter's 46 rip around the track. He runs an IMCA Stock Car, which is not raced at Sheyenne.

Pogones Wins DRC Street Stock Tour at Granite City

Tommy Pogones of Elk River won the Dirt Race Central Street Stock Tour stop at Granite City Motor Park in Sauk Rapids on Sunday night, becoming the fourth different winner in four races this season. Levi Randt of Siren was second, Mike Jans of Clarkfield third, Justin Vogel of Brooten fourth and Shawn Amundson of Rice Lake, Wis., was fifth.

Buffalo River wins to Martin, Jacobson, Randall, Taves and Kast

Preston Martin of Lincoln won the INEX Legends feature Sunday night at Buffalo River Speedway near Glyndon. There were a whopping 44 cars on hand for the latest stop on the Legendary Tour.

Noah Madler of New England was second, Tye Wilke of Detroit Lakes third, Regan Reinke of Lisbon fourth and Gage Madler of New England fifth.

Young Bailey Rasmussen of Harwood was looking for her first career win in the IMCA Sport Mods and was leading heading into turn four on the final lap, but spun to lose in heartbreaking fashion. Scott Jacobson of Fargo picked up another win over Marvin Priem of Moorhead. Kelly Jacobson of Fargo was third, Chris VanMil of Barnesville fourth and Kody Machart of Moorhead fifth.

Reid Randall of Park Rapids won the IMCA Hobby Stock feature over Andrea Jacobson of Fargo. Caleb Gardner of Glyndon was third, Todd Gettel of Mahnomen was fourth and Hunter Goulet of Fargo, last week’s winner, was fifth.

Matthew Taves of Detroit Lakes won the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint feature, his first in that division. Wilke was second, Brandon Rekow of Ellendale was third, Jerzee Rosinski of Grand Forks was fourth and Josh Johnson of Harwood was fifth.

Christian Kast of Fairmount won the Wissota Hornet feature over Cassidy Hamre of Fargo. Kody Crabtree of Georgetown was third, Adrian Kubitz of Fargo fourth and Matthew Moes of Watertown was fifth.
