Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon hosted a solid 67-car field on a pleasant July evening on Friday night.  After raining out three of their first four nights, the weather has been much better for Sheyenne as Thursday was their third straight racing program.

The Hobby Stocks had some rough moments with cautions and a good amount of contact (the race lasted nearly 17 minutes) and  in some ways it felt like an old-school hobby stock race. A solid 10-car field took the green.

Dillon Thorpe of Ellendale grabbed the lead with Billy Carow of Jamestown fighting Bradley Stoppleworth of Jamestown for second.  Stoppleworth got into Carow in turn two to spin the #7, bringing out the caution. Stoppleworth went to the tail.

Carow was now second behind Thorpe as the Gentzkows, Cade and Clay, were running third and fourth, respectively with Stoppleworth climbing back to fifth.

Cade Gentzkow got around Carow and was the primary challenger for Thorpe up front.

Carow got sideways and hit a tire to lose a lot of ground as Cade Gentzkow got around Thorpe for the top spt.  The caution came out for Carow’s stalled #7 machine in turn three, and the race went back to the previous completed lap, giving Thorpe the lead back. Carow went to the tail, but much like Stoppleworth wasn’t done racing near the front.

The restart with six to go saw contact between Cade Gentzkow and Thorpe with Gentzkow losing some sheet metal.  Gentzkow was charged with the yellow, and since the yellow/black had been waved, his night was over.

Thorpe now had Clay Gentzkow, a former track champion at Sheyenne, on his tail but Bradley Stoppleworth would move into second. On a late restart, Thorpe got surrounded by Stoppleworth and Gentzkow, who would take the top two spots as Carow was all over Thorpe for third.

Stoppleworth had about a car length on Clay Gentzkow as Carow cleared Thorpe for third with Wilkinson running in fifth. Gentzkow made one last charge on the bottom in turns three and four but got a little loose as Stoppleworth prevailed by .316 seconds for his first career win. Gentzkow settled for second, Carow made a good comeback to get to third as Thorpe edged Wilkinson for fifth.

Scott Richardson of Pelican Rapids jumped out front of the INEX Legends as Ty Olson of Mandan grabbed second. Brian Frederick of Gwinner ran in the top three along with Clay Smith of Wahpeton.

Just two laps into it Richardson spun in turn four and was struck by Frederick; Richardson’s would leave on the hook and Frederick would also go pit side but would return after some work on his 7F machine.

Olson would take the lead with Sean Johnson of Kindred and Alex Kukowski of Edgeley now in the top three. Kody Machart of Moorhead was also in the top four ahead of Dusty Mund of Milnor.  Olson, meanwhile, was pulling away.

Machart stuck his machine to the bottom and was slowly gaining on the leader. Kukowski had grabbed third with a lot of pressure from Johnson and Mund.   With 10 to go Machart was within a car length of Olson up front.  With eight to go the caution waved for Miller who spun on the frontstretch.

Olson now had Machart on his bumper as the fierce battle for third continued between Kukowski, Mund, Johnson and Regan Reinke of Lisbon.  Machart was looking for any kind of opening past Olson but couldn’t get close enough to make a move. Olson would prevail by about three car lengths over Machart. Reinke capped off a great run to edge Kukowski for third with Johnson capping off the top five.

A total of 13 Wissota Midwest Modifieds took the green. Kyle Langland of Enderlin, runner-up last week, edged ahead of Zach Reinke of Lisbon on the first lap but Reinke would grab the top spot on lap two. Fourth starter Kyle Anderson of Jamestown was closing on the top three as Aaron Michel of Jamestown ran fourth and Nate Reinke of Lisbon was in fifth. Corey Storck of Dilworth was pressuring Nate Reinke.

Zach Reinke was running a more middle groove as the top cars went up to the high side of the speedway. The caution waved for Caden Kiman of Aberdeen, who spun in turn four.

Anderson stayed up high in his pursuit of Zach Reinke as Nate Reinke was working down low. Michel was fourth and Storck was fighting with Langland for fifth.

Zach Reinke made the middle line work in turns three and four as Anderson went way up top trying to make a run.  Unfortunately trouble struck Zach Reinke with six to go as he slowed on the backstretch, and Michel had nowhere to go and hit him, sending the 22 into the wall off the backstretch.  Zach Reinke has three feature wins on the year – one at Electric City in Montana, one at Buffalo River Speedway and one at Tri County – but his hopes of a win at his hometown track were dashed with trouble.

Anderson would inherit the lead with six to go over Nate Reinke. Michel was fighting with Langland and Storck for third as Jason Grimes of Jamestown was closing on the top five.

Anderson opened a lead of one second by the checkered to pick up his third feature win of 2025.  Nate Reinke, who started eighth, was second with Michel running third. Langland edged Storck for fourth.

Ryan Mund of Milnor and Adam Dehne of Medina led the Wissota Street Stocks to the green and it didn’t take long for national point leader Kolton Brauer of Eyota to surge to the front past Mund. Last week’s winner Cole Greseth of Harwood moved into third with Jayden Michaelsohn of Aberdeen was trying to hold off Kasey Ussatis, who is one of the most famous people from Nome, N.D.

Brauer had the lead but wasn’t running away as Greseth moved into second. Mund was running a solid third. Trey Hess of Grand Forks, second in the national points, had moved past Michaelsohn for fourth.

Brauer’s lead slowly grew to .823 seconds over Greseth as Hess caught Mund for third. Ussatis passed Michaelsohn for fifth. Brauer meanwhile stuck his 34 to the very bottom of the ¼-mile with Greseth going up to a higher lane. And soon he had caught Brauer as the two young drivers were side-by-side at the white flag.  Brauer would hold on for a .328 second win over Greseth with Hess running third. Ussatis and Michaelsohn rounded out the top five; Mund, who was having a good run, slowed on the final lap.

Tyler Klugman of Wheaton, making his first visit of the year at Sheyenne, went from ninth to sixth.

Cade Skytland of Kindred and Alex Tschakert of Kent fought for the lead early in the Gen X Late model feature before Skytland would grab the lead.  Skytland would take over the top spot as Mike Anderson of Walcott moving into second with Tschakert in fourth. Parker Gilbertson of Watson, Minn., who won in commanding fashion last week, moved ahead of Jarrett Huus of Fergus Falls for fourth.

Skytland’s lead grew to 1.3 seconds over Anderson as Gilbertson passed Tschakert for third.  Skytland would push the lead to more than a second on his way to his first career win. Anderson was second. Skytland, son of former late model and modified standout Cody Skytland, works out of the same shop as Anderson; in fact his 2025 car is Anderson’s car from 2024.  Skytland, by the way, had to go to victory lane on the hook as his shifter broke.

Gilbertson was third, Tschakert fourth and Huus was fifth.

Only four Mini Stocks were on hand with Pokey Lukes of Lisbon and Braiden Mund of Lisbon leading the way. Mund would lead early but Hunter Goulet of Fargo moved into the top spot.  It soon turned into a three-car fight for the lead as Mason Bogart of Milnor, the two-time defending Mini Stock  champion at Sheyenne, was working a higher lane on the outside.

By the halfway point Bogart moved out front and would go on to take the win over Goulet. Mund and Lukes rounded out the top four.
