Sheyenne Speedway concluded its 2025 season with its season championship which is part of the Ransom County Fair.  There looked to be a good crowd in the stands for the finale at the ¼-mile track.

The racing program started at 7:30 p.m. because of the fair, and concluded with the final checkered flag at 10:07 p.m. There was some very good racing in the features. A very nice job by the drivers and track officials for running a good, efficient show.

I am going to say one thing to the Thursday night tracks that race – Sheyenne, Norman County, KRA Speedway and Grand Rapids Speedway – to take a real hard look at running 5 classes weekly. Thursdays are a tough sell as it is because people work that day, and have to work the next day, but I’m of the school of thought that if you run five classes, the show should be done by 10 p.m., getting fans and drivers on the road at a reasonable hour.  It’s just my opinion as a fan. If you read this blog, you know what I think of so many classes being run. There are too many, pure and simple.

The Hobby Stocks went three-wide into turn one with Tanner Jacobson of Jamestown taking the lead as Billy Carow of Jamestown and Matthew Stoppleworth of Ypsilanti dueled for second.

After a caution for a two-car spin in turn four, Jacobson opened a good lead of 1.8 seconds with six laps left. Second was a four-car fight between Carow, Bradley Stoppleworth, Matthew Stoppleworth, and Dalton Aabrekke of Lisbon running in fifth. Aabrekke had climbed to third and went to work on Carow for second. The caution waved with five to go for Dylan Stoppleworth’s spin, which was his second caution of the race, ending his night.

That yellow erased a 1.8 second lead for Jacobson. Things intensified up front as Aabrekke and Carow went side by side, as Aabrekke captured the spot with four to go.  Aabrekke was all over Jacobson and there was some contact which cost Aabrekke sound some ground.

Then it got really crazy as the top four cars were running on top of each other. Jacobson got spun on the white flag lap and that collected Aabreke and Carow.  I would not have been happy if I was Jacobson, as his night ended on the hook.

Aabrekke was the leader on the restart with Carow and Zack Nord of Enderlin now on his tail.  Carow made one last surge on the outside but Aabrekke held on by a half-car length for the win, his first of 2025. Carow was second, Nick Nord of Enderlin was third, Matthew Stoppleworth fourth and Braiden Mund of Lisbon was fifth. Five of the nine cars finished.

I was a little surprised to see only nine INEX Legend cars on hand but there were some good cars and it was a heck of a fight up front over the final half of the race.  Bo Gregor of Lisbon grabbed the top spot with Kody Machart of Moorhead and Dusty Mund of Lisbon fighting for second. Regan Reinke of Lisbon the season point leader, was fighting for fourth. TJ Pfeifer spun in turn four to bring out the first caution.

When the race restarted Mund grabbed second and Regan Reinke took over third but was pressuring Dusty Mund. Machart was close in fourth with Cody Jawaski of Kindred in fifth.

Mund was applying heavy pressure to Gregor with Reinke and Machart right there.  Gregor could ill afford to slip up with three fast cars behind him. Mund threw  about everything he had a at Gregor as Machart edged past Reinke for third.  With two to go it looked like any of the top four had a shot at the win.

Mund was trying very hard to make a pass on the low line but couldn’t quite get it done as Gregor picked up the victory by a few feet, or .096 seconds. Mund settled for second. Machart edged Reinke for third by .013 seconds. Jawaski had a solid top five. Regan Reinke wrapped up the 2025 track championship with his finish.

I am happy for Gregor, a good guy and a popular driver in Lisbon. He had been having an OK season with five top fives in 10 starts but had not win, and winning on fair night is a good way to cap off the year.

There was a strong 15-car Wissota Midwest Modified field on hand.

Former national champion Lucas Rodin and Alex Langland of Enderlin raced side-by-side for the lead early with Rodin taking the top spot. Kyle Langland of Enderlin was third, with Brennon Weight of LaMoure fourth and Dawson Zabel of Selby, S.D. in fifth.’

Alex Langland was working the lower line an pressuring Rodin when Todd Wallner spun in turn four to bring out the caution with 14 to go.

Rodin had the Langland brothers on his tail on the restart with Weight and Zabel looking to move up and challenge as well.  Kyle Langland would edge ahead for second as Alex Langland now had to fight Weight for third. Zach Reinke of Lisbon had climbed to fifth.

Kyle Langland snuck ahead of Rodin for the top spot as the top two put on a big-time show for the top spot. Weight soon joined the party to make it a three car battle with six to go.

Slowly, Rodin was opening up some ground on the higher side but Kyle Langland made a lot of ground up in turns three and four. Weight stuck his #28 to the very bottom as he challenged Kyle Langland.

The battle went to the final lap as the top three went three-wide for the top spot. It came down to the line as Rodin would prevail in a thriller by just .087 seconds. Kyle Langland capped off a good run in second, topping Weight by just .035 seconds for the runner-up slot. Alex Langland was fourth and Zach Reinke of Lisbon was fifth.

Cole Greseth of Harwood entered the night in the point lead in the Wissota Street Stocks and is in the midst of the best season of his young career with 22 wins in 44 starts this summer. He had the inside pole of Thursday’s main event.

Greseth grabbed the lead over Aberdeen’s Jayden Michaelsohn with Trey Hess of Grand Forks, who raced all the way up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, last night, challenging him for the spot.  Hess would move in to second with a four-car tussle for fourth involving Michaelsohn, Kasey Ussatis of Nome, Mike Mund of Lisbon and Joe Deede of Medina racing very hard.

Ussatis, who was only two points behind Greseth in the points entering the night, move move into third. Greseth, meanwhile had a commanding 3.5 second lead with two laps to go.  Michaelsohn, Mund, Ryan Mund and Deede continued to fight for fourth with some side-by-side action.

Greseth wrapped up the 2025 Sheyenne championship with a 3.8 second win, his 23rd of the year.  Hess, racing for the 72nd time in 2025, settled for second; he has 14 wins and 60 top fives this summer.  Ussatis went from eighth to third with Michaelsohn and Ryan Mund rounding out the top five.  The streets ran 15 laps caution free with some good racing in the pack, nice job by that group.

Mike Anderson of Walcott jumped to the top spot in the Gen X Late Model feature with Jeff Nelson of Perham in second. Jarrett Huus ofFergus Falls was dueling with Cade Skytland of Kindred for the third spot. Kevin Youngquist of Barney and Alex Tschakert of Kent were battling for fifth.

Anderson was on an absolute rail and six laps into the feature had pushed the lead to more than two seconds. The lead grew to 4.5 seocnds with three to go as the field got spread out.

Skytland was working on Huus for third but could not get by. Anderson ran away by 4.69 seconds for his first victory of 2025. Nelson was second, Huus held off Skytland for third and Tschakert was fifth in a caution-free race that lasted a little over four minutes. I was a little surprised to see only six Gen X Late Models on hand, usually Sheyenne had been around the 9-10 car range. I expect that class to pick up some numbers if it returns next year.

The Short Trackers had a rough go of it to start the feature with two cautions before the first lap was completed. A big crash happened on the second attempt with several car ending up off the backstretch, which included pole sitter Pokey Lukes. Mason Bogart and Nathan Kelley were eliminated in that crash, Luke went to the work area and returned.

Hunter Goulet of Fargo moved ahead of Kody Crabtree for the lead with Bryce Mueller running third.  Mueller was working hard on Crabtree for the second spot. Cameryn Taylor was running fourth and Dale Mittleider of was in fifth.

Goulet opened a straightaway lead on Crabtree who had opened three car lengths on Mueller. The field got really spread out and it was a rout for Goulet, who won by nearly a half lap. Crabtere edged Mueller for third with Taylor and Mittleider rounding out the top five.
