Andy Rossow has two top fives in five starts in 2025, including a win at BCS.

Andy Rossow has raced in the Wissota Street Stock class since 2013, and don’t expect the Florence, S.D., resident to switch classes any time soon.

“The people in (the class) are fun. You race against a lot of friends,” Rossow said. “Everybody gets along. If you wreck something everybody helps you get the car back together. It’s a really fun class to be a part of.”

He is one of the most consistent runners in the class in eastern South Dakota over the past few years.  Since 2022, he’s recorded 10 feature wins (including the season opener at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen earlier this month) and finished in the top five in more than half his starts. He was the 2019 track champion at BCS and also won a track title at Casino Speedway in Watertown in 2021.

Rossow, 34, works as a welding instructor at Lakes Area Tech in Watertown. Like many, family influenced Rossow’s decision to get into racing. His uncle, Ron Anderson, was a well-known and successful late model driver in eastern South Dakota for many years; his cousin, Trevor pilots the No. 20 Wissota Late Model. His brother, Bradley, drives the #555 Wissota Hornet.

In 2006, Andy Rossow got his start in the two-person Cruiser division at Casino.

“My uncle Ron Anderson got the family started,” Rossow said. “My cousin Trevor started racing, and my mom raced two-person cruisers, and then me and my brother started there…”

His first feature win in the street stocks came in 2016, just days after rolling his car at Casino.

“I rolled on Sunday in Watertown and thrashed all week and won my first feature in Aberdeen on Friday,” Rossow said.

In the years since, he’s become a consistent top five car at tracks like Casino and Brown County. Including five starts this year, dating back to 2022, he has 66 top five finishes in 118 starts according to myracepass.com. That includes 10 feature wins.

“You’ve got to keep maintaining and you’ve got to keep pushing through,” Rossow said. “Some of the weeks, you get tired and don’t want to do that maintenance…but maintenance needs to be done to stay consistent and stay up there. You’ve got to keep doing it week after week after week.”

The 2024 campaign saw Rossow earn four wins and 21 top fives in 39 starts but also included seven DNFs.

“It wasn’t my best year; we had some good runs and we had some bad runs,” Rossow said. “We had a lot of stupid stuff happen, like breaking gears.”

He won the season opener at Brown County on May 2, but finished outside the top five in his next three starts. He had a good start at Casino on Sunday, taking third.

“We’ve had some struggles since (the opening win), but the car’s been fast every night,” Rossow said. “Even though the results haven’t shown it, I’ve come in after the features and said I’ve had a really good car. The car’s been fast and hopefully we can keep that going and use that momentum going forward.”

Rossow plans to travel to some different tracks this year and hit some Dirt Race Central Street Stock Tour events. That will include Saturday’s DRC tour opener at Viking Speedway in Alexandria.

“I’m all about good finishes, having fun and picking up some wins along the way,” Rossow said.
