Pogones holds off Serr, Vogel for DRC Street Stock Tour win in Aberdeen

The Dirt Race Central Street Stock Tour entered the week with eight different winners in eight different races.  Saturday night that changed.

Friday’s tour feature was called off because of rain, so it was made up as part of Saturday’s program with Huron’s Jayden Bogh and Princeton’s Tommy Pogones leading the field to green. This turned into a heck of a race over the final few laps.

Defending national champion Kolton Brauer of Eyota suffered a problem before the green even flew – his 34 car was leaking oil and pouring out smoke; he would pull off before the green even flew. That delayed the start of the race as the fluid was worked in.

Pogones led the opening lap of the feature with Bogh in second and Bertram in third. Chris Serr of Aberdeen soon took over the spot with the Wolverine Justin Vogel of Brooten pressuring Kyle Bertram of Dallas.

Pogones led by a couple of car lengths and Serr pressured Bogh. Bertram had Matt Goth on his heels for the fifth spot.

The battle for second heated up as Serr would grab the spot with 16 to go. Pogones was facing some lapped traffic. Vogel moved into third with 13 to go.

Pogones had about 2-3 car lengths on Serr as lapped traffic continued to be a headache for Pogones. Vogel though was pressuring Serr on the outside. Bogh was solidly in fourth.

Serr and Vogel were reeling in Pogones, who was mired in lapped traffic, and it turned into a frantic final two laps. Serr had closed and Vogel was making a furious charge on the outside.  Serr made a charge on the final lap and Vogel got a big run off of turn four, but Pogones would win by a matter of inches. The margin of victory was .151 seconds. Serr edged Vogel by .069 seconds for second. The top three spots were separated by just over .2 second.

Bogh finished fourth and Bertram held off Kammron Rose of Wisconsin for fifth.

Some notables: Maria Broksieck of Godowin went from 18^th to 11^th in the race while Jayde Michaelsohn of Aberdeen was the hard charger, going from 20^th to 12^th.  Cody Kummer of Medford, Wis.,  in contention for the points title, finished seventh after starting 11^th. A caution would have benefitted several of those drivers in the field.

Regan Reinke led the INEX Legend Makeup feature but soon had to continue with Preston Martin. Rayson Sheehan was running third, Donavin Wiest of Wishek was fourth and Dustin Hagen was fighting with Ryan Erdahl of Jamestown for fifth.

Reinke’s lead was just .22 seconds over Martin with six to go, but those two had a big advantage on third-place Wiest.  Martin was trying to make a higher lane work while Reinke glued his 22 to the bottom speedway

Reinke led every lap and would hold off one last charge from Martin to win a thriller by .076 seconds. Martin had a big run on the outside on the final lap and came up a few feet short.

Wiest ran well and took third, Erdahl was fourth and Sheehan fifth in a caution-free race that lasted less than five minutes.

Brown County got through the street stock heat races, and through some of the second-round of Tri-State Late Model heats before a storm hit the track. The wind and rain caused the cancellation of the rest of the program, which would have included legend heats and feature and the street stock and late model features. The weather did Brown County no favors this weekend; we could use that rain where I am at!

Kapp, Edinger, Beyer, Bargmann and Michaelsohn capture victories at Jamestown

Andrew Kapp of Jamestown earned the IMCA Modified feature victory Saturday night at Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown. John Nord of Enderlin was second, Jeremy Keller of Bismarck third, Scott Gartner of Jamestown fourth and Jacoby Traut of Jamestown fifth.

Travis Edinger of Jamestown won the Bomber feature. Second was Billy Carow of Jamestown, Gavin Edinger of Spiritwood was third, Brent Wilkinson of Jamestown was fourth and Ryker Vetter of Wishek was fifth.

Arin Beyer of Jamestown won the Wissota Midwest Modified feature as Jarod Klein of Jamestown ended in second. Jake Wranek of Sioux Falls was third, Cole Neset of Fargo was fourth and Aaron Michel of Jamestown was fifth.

Andrew Bargmann of Bismarck won the INEX Legends feature with Rylan Vetter of Wishek second and Joshua Wiest of Jamestown third.

Jodie Michaelsohn of Aberdeen edged Tony Smith of Jamestown in the Wissota Street Stock feature. Dustin Erickson of Jamestown was third, Kasey Ussatis of Nome was fourth and Mike Mund of Milnor was fifth.  One note in the Wissota Street Stock feature – it was a rare DNF for Cole Greseth of Harwood, who retired with a right rear flat.

Golden Hammer win to

Adam Sobolik won the Non-Winged Sprint feature with Nick Shirek second. Jeremy Lizakowski was third.

Greg Jose of Grand Forks claimed the Wissota Street Stock feature win with Stoney Kruk of Langdon second. Blaine Barnes of Grand Forks was third, Trey Hess of Grand Forks was fourth and Jordan Barker of Grand Forks was fifth.

Notes

--Viking Speedway in Alexandria cancelled its program earlier in the week because of the excessive heat warning.

Sunday tracks cancelling because of the heat advisory include Buffalo River Speedway near Glyndon, Casino Speedway in Watertown, Granite City Motor Park in Granite City and Redwood Speedway. “Feels like” temps were slated to be near 110 degrees in some areas.
