Casino Speedway was back in action on Sunday night on a warm summer evening.  With Brown County Speedway running a doubleheader special over the weekend, I expected the car counts to be down a bit, but they were OK. On a ¼-mile track, even 9-10 cars is enough for a good feature race. The show got done in a little more than three hours which is always to my liking.

Cole Greseth of Harwood is only 18 and is having the kind of season most drivers who run 20-30 years dream of.  He won Friday at River Cities and Saturday at Jamestown, and entered the night with 14 wins in 29 starts in his 19G Wissota Street Stock.

He had the pole for the Wissota Street Stock main event along with Tyler Lamb of Clark. Greseth grabbed the lead with Lamb dealing with Jason Marko of Watertown for second. Jayden Bogh of Huron, also having a good year, was fourth but spun in turn two; Lamb was charged with that caution.

On the restart, Marko went to work on Greseth as Maria Broksieck of Goodwin moved into third and was closing on the top two. Bogh was fourth and Jodie Michaelsohn of Aberdeen was fifth.

The caution waved with 15 to go for Cory Giessinger’s spin in turn two. On the restart Broksieck made a run at the lead using the bottom line and got beside Greseth but he held on before the caution waved when Michaelsohn slowed on the backstretch. As things were heating up at the front there was a big mess at the end of the backstretch as Jayden Michaelsohn got crossed up down the frontstretch and tagged the side of Bogh’s 20Jr, sending it to the wall. Several cars were involved, including Giessinger, Andy Rossow of Florence and Dexter Wipf. Bogh and Giessinger both had heavy damage and left on the hook. Giessinger never seems to have much luck when I see him, unfortunately.

Bogh and Giessinger left on the hook while Michaelsohn would take the top spot.

On the restart with 13 to go Broksieck pressured Greseth with Rossow now up to third.  Tony Miller of Browns Valley was having a good run in fourth with Lamb back up to fifth. Marko’s good run ended with a mechanical failure, and he would pull off the track.

There was an incident in turns one and two that sent Broksieck sideways briefly to bring out the yellow. I didn’t get a clear view of it, but Rossow was tagged with the yellow. On the ensuing green flag Broksieck went to work on the outside of Greseth on the restart and made a charge on the outside and took the lead with 10 to go.

Rossow made a big run through the field and snagged third while Jodie Michaelsohn was fourth; he tagged the wall on the front stretch but kept his momentum going.  After a caution Greseth worked the low line to give Broksieck a run for the lead. Rossow was third and Miller was fourth. Lamb and Michaelsohn were racing hard for fifth.

Broksieck was flawless over the final laps to pick up a .908 second win over Greseth.  It was her third victory of 2025. Even though she’s had three DNFs this year and hasn’t had the wins she had last year, Broksieck remains consistent with 15 top fives in 19 starts.  That’s why she’s always in the points hunt at the South Dakota tracks.

I’m not sure if Greseth has ever raced at Casino before and if he has it hasn’t been many times, but he ran a solid second and certainly continued his big-time summer. Rossow, who had some damage from the frontstretch crash, finished third. Miller had his best finish of the year in fourth with Lamb in fifth.

There were three DQs in the Gen X Late Model heats which shuffled the lineup for the feature. Trevor Walsh of Watertown grabbed the lead over Kevin Youngquist of Barney, N.D.,

The Tony Terrill of Clark spun in turn four and that led to a huge mess. Parker Gilbertson of Watson, Alex Tschakert of Kent, Tony and Bodie Croninger of Watertown, Tyler McFarland of Goodwin were among those involved.  Bodie Croninger and McFarlane endured the worst of the crash and left on the hook. Tony Terrill had plenty of damage as well and drove to the pits to end his night.

Walsh resumed the lead with Curt Kranz of Watertown in fourth as Youngquist slid back on the restart.  Gilbertson, who started 12th, was flying on the bottom and moved up to third. Tony Croninger was fourth. The caution waved for Fisher’s spin in turn two.

After a two-car incident on the restart brought out the yellow again, Kranz worked the low lane to find a way around Walsh as Gilbertson was in pursuit. Tony Croninger was closing on the top three as Youngquist, Jeff Nelson of Perham and Tschakert were in a big fight for the fifth spot.

Walsh was pulling away from Kranz, extending to a 1.2 second lead. The real race was for fifth between Nelson, Tschakkert and Youngquist.  The top four had some decent distance between them.  Walsh would prevail by 1.427 seconds over Kranz with Gilbertson taking third. Tony Croninger was fourth and Nelson survived the battle to take fifth.

Nate Heinrich of Bellingham is having a good year as he entered the night with four feature wins, and he stormed out to a big lead in the Wissota Modified feature and never looked back. Dylan Zabel of Selby and Superman Mike Stearns of Aberdeen were putting on a big-time show with sliders back and fourth for second. Cayden Schmeling of Watertown was fourth and Bryce Borgen of Perley was fifth.

Heinrich’s lead was up to 2.2 seconds with nine laps to go. Stearns and Zabel continued to fight for second as Schmeling was comfortably in fourth. Tony Konold of Clear Lake was challenging Borgen for fifth.

Zabel cut into the lead and was within 1.2 seconds with one to go but that is as close as he’d get as Heinrich picked up win #5.  Zabel outlasted Stearns in a great battle for second with Schmeling fourth and Borgen fifth. The modifieds ran caution free.

Watertown drivers Tommy Nichols and Terry Reilly had the front row for the Wissota Midwest Modified main event.  Reilly, by the way, is Nichols’s uncle.

Nichols took the lead early with a great battle for second between Reilly and first-time visitor Kyle Anderson of Jamestown. Todd Stark of Watertown wasfourth and Johnson of Miller was in fifth.

Anderson was running up high as he tried to cut a 1.2 second lead for Nichols.  With four to go Anderson had cut the lead to .614 seconds. Stark was pressuring Reilly for third.  Nichols stuck the 28 machine to the bottom while Anderson was charging late. But the 59 would run out of time as Nichols prevailed by .383 seconds for his third win of 2025. Reilly fended off Stark for third and Johnson rounded out the top five.

Aberdeen drivers  Sperle and Chad Becker at the front row for the Wissota Late Model feature as Becker, a former national champion flew out to the lead. Sperle was second as Trevor Anderson of Watertown, who started sixth, worked to third. Chad Williamson of Watertown was fourth. Ryan Engels of Watertown was fifth.

Jayson Good started 10th but within three laps had climbed to sixth. Anderson and Sperle dueled for second as Becker opened a two-second lead.  The caution waved with 18 to go for Sperle, who went to the tail.

On the restart Becker powered a 4-5 car length lead as Anderson, who stuck his 20 to the bottom, ran the bottom. Good was up to third with Engels fourth. Blake Swenson was having a good run in fifth.

Good and Anderson were going side-by-side for second with Swenson moving to fourth.

Becker’s lead grew to nearly four seconds when the caution waved after Engels went around on the backstretch. He was charged with the yellow with 10 to go. Becker was dominant on restarts, particularly off of the top of turn two, and the lead was quickly

Sperle got sideways in turn two to bring out the caution with nine to go; that was his second cuation of the evening, ending his night.

Good didn’t let Becker run away on the final restart and stayed within a second but could get no closer as the former national champ prevailed by 1.2 seconds over Good. Swenson capped off a great night by finishing third with Anderson and Williamson rounding out the top five.

A 10-car Wissota Hornet field capped off the night. There was nearly a huge wreck in turn two of the feature as front-row starter Josh Gebhart of Watertown slowed and caused several cars to take evasive action. Gebhart suffered a flat. Fortunately, there was no major contact around him but it was a close call.

Watertown driver Dean Roe was the early leader but Jeff Rohner of Willmar, fast wherever he has unloaded this summer, would take the lead on top tow. Nathan Smith of Watertown was fighting Roe for second as Christian Kast of Fairmount was fourth.

Smith and Roe made contact, nearly sending the Smith into the wall, allowing Bradley Rossow of Florence to grab second. Smith made a great save settled back into third with Kast in fourth. Roe was in fifth.

Rohner was in total control of the feature but there was a great three-car tangle for second between Smith, Rossow and Kast.   Rohner would win by more than a half-lap in a thoroughly dominant performance. as Kast survived the battle for second. Rossow was third, Smith fourth and Roe fifth.
