Two appearances by the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars and one by the World of Outlaw Late Models highlight a busy summer at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks.
The schedule (like all tracks and events) could be impacted by what’s currently happening with the Coronavirus and restrictions — we obviously don’t know what the coming weeks hold. As of now, with all track schedules and season previews, I will proceed as if all things are normal as scheduled until we hear differently. The schedule is still tentative and is subject to change. Historically RCS has opened second Friday in May; the track hopes to have more information about Coronavirus/COVID19 as the spring progresses. Please stay tuned for updates through the River Cities Speedway website (www.rivercitiesspeedway.com) and social media. I’ve been in contact with RCS promoter Darren Evavold via email over the past month about updates, etc.
It’s a busy summer scheduled at the Bullring, which will run the NOSA Sprints, Wissota Late Models, Midwest Modified and Street Stocks as part of its weekly Premier Racing Series.
The first World of Outlaws sprint show is set for June 5 and will be joined by the NLRA Late Models. The WOO sprints will return on Aug. 21 along with the NLRA Late Models. Logan Schuchart won the first event on June 7, 2019 while Fargo standout and multi-time WOO champion Donny Schatz won the WOO sprint event on Aug. 17. Schatz also pilots a late model and will be able to race his No. 15 machine at both sprint stops.
The World of Outlaw Late Models invade River Cities on July 17. Brandon Sheppard won the event a year ago. The WOO Late Models will be joined by the NOSA Sprints and the A Mods.
The John Seitz Memorial has turned into one of the most popular two-day shows around with excellent car counts in all classes. This year, there is the Prelude to the Johnny on Sept. 10; John Seitz Memorial Night 1 on Sept. 11, which features the NOSA Sprints along with A-Mods, Mid Mods and Streets. The John Seitz Memorial Night 2 on Sept. 12 is highlighted by the $9,200 to win late model feature, which was won in impressive fashion by Canadian driver Aaron Turnbull in 2019.
The Steffes Street Stock Tour comes to RCS on June 19 as part of the Greater Grand Forks Fair and two nights later, Wissota Midwest Modifieds will have a special along with the NLRA Late Models. The Lightning Sprints will make five appearances this season.
