It had always been a dream for Alex Truscinski to get behind the wheel of a 410 sprint car. Before the 2024 season, after spending 10 years in the lightning sprint division, the Greenbush resident finally got that chance.
“We had an opportunity to buy out a guy for a reasonable price,” Truscinski said. “Dad decided he wanted to let me try it out because it had always been a dream of ours, and luckily here we are.”
Truscinski is in his third year in the NOSA 410 Sprints at River Cities Speedway, but considers 2026 his second full season after running a handful of shows in 2024. To say it was a big jump in horsepower – from about 200 hp to 900 hp – is an understatement.
“it’s definitely a jump going from that to this (NOSA Sprint),” Truscinski said. “it’s going from 200 horsepower to 900 horsepower. It’s a whole different animal jumping into this 410. I still have got a lot to learn but I am happy I have the ability to, and I’m excited to keep trying.”
Before jumping into the 410 class, Truscinski made a name for himself in the lightning sprint division. He started racing in the lightning sprints at age 15, and for many years, would race against his father, Alan in the class.
“My dad raced snowmobiles when he was younger, and had a mid-life crisis, and wanted to get in the lightning sprints,” Truscinski said.
Alex Truscinski became a top runner in the lightning sprint class. From 2016-23, according to myracepass, he won 51 features, including a stellar 2022 season when he won 15 main events.
“I feel like I had good throttle control and knew what to look for on the track and kept my line and didn’t overdrive ever,” Truscinski said. “That’s a big thing in those cars. You get into wheel spin too much, and you end up losing speed.”
But there was always the desire to get into the bigger, faster 410 sprints.
“A lot of it is the thrill of it,” Truscinski said. “It’s high speeds, it’s dangerous. Everybody says you have to be a little bit stupid to race, but it’s ad ifferent kind of stupid. I think I have a little bit of that stupid in me, but I have the brains to be smart and hopefully that can push me forward and get me that win.”
In 2024, Truscinski made the jump into the NOSA 410 Sprints. He had three top 10 feature finishes in limited action that season. The 2025 campaign showed some progress for the 27-year-old with two top five finishes and 10 top ten finishes in 15 feature starts. His best finish was third on June 20 and he finished a solid fourth in the season points at RCS.
“I’m definitely more comfortable. You get nervous every time you go out on the track, but there’s less nerves now,” Truscinski said. “I know I can trust my car more than I have in the past. I’m excited to have that trust and start the year off with a strong car right out of the get-go.”
He’s made two starts this season, and been in the top 10 in both, including a fourth-place finish last Thursday. That finish came after falling back early, but he stuck with it and was patient through several cautions to get back into the top five.
“I’m happy with the result of a top 4 after falling back early in the feature,” Truscinski said. “Being able to keep my head on straight and make a strong comeback shows what I know I am capable of and am happy to start the year off with one of my best finishes.”
Truscinski, who works for Digi-Key in Thief River Falls, is eyeing more consistent finishes towards the front in 2026 – and perhaps break through for that first 410 sprint win.
“We’re looking to be more consistent in the top five,” Truscinski said. “We’ve still got a lot to learn, but we’re willing to learn. And hopefully by the end of the year, we’ve shown we’ve learned plenty.”
