Regan Reinke continues family racing tradition in Lisbon

There is another Reinke making noise on the racetrack in Lisbon.

Brothers Zach and Nate Reinke are former Wissota Midwest Modified track champions at Sheyenne Speedway and have been fixtures in the class for years at the 1/4-mile oval.  Now, Zach’s son, Regan, 14, is having success in the early stages of his racing career.

Regan Reinke races in the INEX Legend class and is in his third year in the class, having started at age 12.

His last name is a familiar one to regulars at Sheyenne Speedway.

“They’ve been racing since before I was born,” Regan said of his father and uncle. “My dad’s always raced the B mod, they both have.”

Regan Reinke, who will be a freshman at Lisbon High School this year, is in the fourth year in the INEX Legends; he has four feature wins over the past two seasons and already has a track championship to his credit. Like many young drivers, he began in go-karts.

“I raced go-karts for a while. I figured we’d hope into a Legend car and try it out,” Reinke said.

His first year of 2023 was a learning curve but he got 17 nights in behind the wheel. In 2024 he posted a pair of top fives, and he broke through last year with three feature wins.

“It’s all kinda slowed down. You learn things,” Reinke said. “You watch other people and what they’re doing and you figure it out and learn from there.”

His first career win came in unusual circumstances at Sheridan Speedway in Wyoming. The race only had two cars.

“There were like two cars,” Reinke said. “The track was fun there.”

He added wins at Greenbush Race Park and a win at his hometown track of Sheyenne Speedway. He shared the Sheyenne Speedway track championship with Dusty Mund in 2025.

“That was cool. Me and Dusty, we raced hard all year,” Reinke said.

“Be smooth on the wheel and the gas. And don’t stick your nose in bad spots and you’ll be all right,” Reinke said of the keys to driving a Legend car.

There is an added bonus for Regan Reinke this year – and that’s racing against his father, Zach, who picked up a Legend car to race for this year. He said he wants to beat his dad “all the time,” on the racetrack.

“Racing with Regan is a blast,” Zach Reinke said. “Racing in the same class has really opened my eyes to the ability he uses behind the wheel.”

“It’s fun,” Regan Reinke said. “He’s always been the teacher. I kinda feel I’m the teacher in these. He said they are a lot different than the B mod.”

This year, in 14 starts, he has one win (at Brown County Speedway) and 10 top five finishes. On the recent Legendary Tour swing, he finished in the top five on three of the four nights.

“I’m hoping to get a couple of more wins,” Reinke said. “I want some here (at) my home track. That would be nice to have.”
