A year ago, the Steffes Street Stock Tour provided a big boost for Wissota Street Stock racing in the region with an even bigger and better year planned in 2021. This year, the Rebel Midwest Modified Tour presented by RHR Swag has the potential to provide the same for the Wissota Midwest Modified racing in the region.
There are 10 shows on the schedule, which includes two stops at I-94 Sure Step Speedway in Fergus Falls, two at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, two at Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon and one each at Devils Lake, Jamestown, Viking Speedway and Greenbush Race Park.
Each show will pay at least $1,000 to the winner, with the exception of the finale, which pays a whopping $5,000 to the winner at Sheyenne Speedway on Aug. 22.
RHR Swag, the title sponsor, is owned by long-time midwest modified driver Scott Bintz of Jamestown. Sheyenne Speedway co-promoter Benji Froemke, who also is the director of the Steffes Street Stock Tour, is the Rebel Midwest Modified Tour director.
“Midwest Modified drivers and fans have really wanted a tour like this,” Bintz said. “Good money, good racing with the top drivers and up and comers, some traveling, and then a big finale. I’m very pleased to be part of this tour.”
The point fund will pay at least $5,000 to the top 10 spots, Froemke said. Further details about the point fund, point structures and perks for following the tour will be announced in the weeks ahead, Froemke said. The plan is to pay the top 10 in points at the end of the season, he said. The number of shows that will count towards the points will be announced at a later date as well.
“The midwest mod class has become the largest race class, by far, in the upper Midwest Wissota region. The class is filled with some serous talent from veterans to up and coming young drivers,” Froemke said. “Scott’s impact on dirt racing in the region is incredible and this tour is going to give fans something they have wanted for years — the top midwest modified drivers racing each other at different tracks in front of packed crowds and race teams competing for top money each and every night.”
The Viking and Devils Lake events are on the same night — that is not a typo — allowing drivers to race closer to their home that night. Jamestown’s midwest modifieds are off that night.
