Norman County Raceway in Ada and Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo will host the King Pin Klash for the IMCA Stock Cars this week. The specials are presented by The Bowler in Fargo.
The IMCA Stock Cars will race for $500 to win each night, while each car starting the feature receives $70. NCR races at 7 p.m. on Thursday and RRVS races at 7 p.m. on Friday.
There have been four stock car features contested at the two tracks so far this season. Rick Schulz of Horace has two wins while Brennan Borg of Harwood and Mike Anderson of Walcott also have wins.
The stock car counts locally have been excellent, as Red River Valley has averaged 19 cars per week in the division.
Norman County Raceway will be entering its third week of competition in 2020. The King Pin Klash is the highlight at the 3/8-mile oval but the regular weekly classes, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Hobby Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods, Wissota Midwest Modifieds and INEX Legends will hit the track also. The Ada-Fargo SportMod Series also kicks off on Thursday at NCR.
Red River Valley Speedway will also run its regular classes on Friday in addition to the Stock Cars: IMCA Mods, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stock and INEX Legends.
Steffes Street Stock Tour Back in Area
The Steffes Wissota Street Stock Tour is back in action in the region this week. The tour will race at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks on Friday with the streeters racing for $700 to win. The streets will be joined by the NOSA Sprints, the Wissota Late Models, Wissota Midwest Modifieds and POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints. Racing is at 7 p.m. sharp in Grand Forks.
So far, Todd Carter, Ryan Johnson and Bryce Reimer have street stock wins at River Cities.
The street stock tour also goes to Devils Lake Raceway on Saturday. Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks topped Trey Hess of Manvel for the thrilling win last week. Todd Carter, Jonny Carter and Daniel Aberle also have street stock wins at DLS this season. Just announced is the streets will run for $750 to win and $100 to start at Devils Lake. Should be a great field.
Joining the street stocks at Devils Lake are the POWRI Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints, Pure Stock, Wissota Midwest Modified and the Western Renegade Non-Winged Sprints.
A few other thoughts on the street tour — it is good for these drivers to run for a little money. The streets are not well paid at most tracks and for them to get a chance to run for $500 or more is a big deal. This class is getting some notice it deserves. I credit the drivers who’ve followed the tour and the work of Benji Froemke in organizing this. He’s done wonderful things in spite of some scheduling challenges with the Covid-19 restrictions.
The top eight shows count towards the tour points. There are 16 events scheduled. Jonny Carter, the winner at Mandan, holds a slim two point lead over Eric Riley, who won at Jamestown. Jake Froemke of International Falls is third. Sheyenne winner Justin Vogel was fifth.
I-94 Sure Step Speedway Back in Action on Friday
I-94 Sure Step Speedway in Fergus Falls will host all six regular classes this week, which means the debut of the Wissota Late Models. Tailgating will be open to first-come, first-serve fans while limited tickets will be sold to the grandstands. Racing is at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Sheyenne Speedway Celebrating 47th Anniversary
Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon will celebrate Fathers Day and its 47th anniversary this week. Racing starts at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
All five regular classes, Wissota Midwest Modified, Wissota Street Stocks, INEX Legends, Mini Stocks and Hobby Stocks will race at Sheyenne this week.
