There is a lot happening this summer at the Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon in what could be one of biggest summers in the history of the track.
Some of the biggest news came last fall when more dirt was added to the 1/4-mile oval, which should lead to even more side by side racing at the track and a wider racing surface as well.
“The track will continue to be slick and smooth like always with traction strips at the top for the drivers that want to go get after it.” said co-promoter Hunter Carter.
Other big news is the addition, weekly, of the INEX Legends division. The class ran a partial schedule a year ago. Brody Carlsrud of Moorhead was the track champion.
“The enthusiasm we received from the Legend race teams and fans makes this a great fit with a lot of potential for growth.” said co-promoter Benjie Froemke.
The track will race on a Saturday this year (June 27) and on a Friday (Aug. 7). Sheyenne will take the month of July off like it did in 2019. For more go to sheyennespeedway.com.
2020 Sheyenne Highlights
—The Wissota Modifieds will make three appearances at Sheyenne this year — May 25 (Memorial Day), June 7 (Top Gun Night) and Aug. 7 (Speedfest).
—The NLRA Late Models are back after a highly popular event last year which saw 32 late models show up. The Battle at the Boneyard is set for Aug. 16 this year. Eventual national champion Chad Becker of Aberdeen, S.D., won the race last year.
—The track will run a doubleheader on June 27-28. Saturday’s show is prelude to the Dream featuring Lucas Oil Lightning Sprints while Sunday is the second annual Dakota Dream, another successful event a year ago.
—The Steffes Wissota Street Stock tour makes two stops at Sheyenne. The first is on May 31, which is the opening night of the tour, and the second is Aug. 7 as part of Speedfest.
—Another doubleheader is set for Sept. 6-7 (Labor Day Weekend).
