Hayden Aberle of Edgeley had to wait a few years for his first career feature win. But it was worth the wait.
He picked up his first career win on Aug. 15, 2021 in the Hobby Stock Class at Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon. He was in his fourth year behind the wheel of the #10 machine.
“That was a long-time coming,” Aberle said. “I was waiting for that one a long time. I finally got it. I had a lot of good runs, second, thirds, or where I’d lead half the race, but it always came down to getting passed at the end. It was pretty exciting.”

The 2022 season is Aberle’s fifth in racing, and the season has been solid so for the 24-year-old old. In eight starts this season, Aberle has six top five finishes, including a win at Jamestown Speedway on May 28. He’s third in the points at Sheyenne heading into Sunday’s program, which will be the first racing at the track since June.
“The season overall has been good,” Aberle said. “Been fighting a lot of things but overall it’s been a great season so far. I’m looking forward to the last part of the year here.”
His season got off to a good start with a feature win at Jamestown on May 28.
“I was able to win that, so that was a good note to start the year on,” Aberle said.
Experience has helped Aberle in his development as a driver. Last season he finished third in the points at Sheyenne with five top fives and one victory.
“Now I’ve got the experience behind the wheel,” Aberle said of the improvement. “I spent the money on a decent motor, and I got a new car last year. (I’ve put) a lot more time and effort into it.”
Even though there have been only two nights of racing at Sheyenne this year, Aberle is in third place behind Dalton Aabrekke and Jayden Michaelsohn.
“I would like to win the points championship here in Lisbon,” Aberle said. “I’ve been close, I’ve been third a couple of times. I’ve been there. That’s my goal is to get at least one track championship this year.”
