After strong points finishes, Kubitz in pursuit of first career Hornet feature win

Adrian Kubitz sometimes spends three nights a week at the racetrack. But only one of those is behind the wheel of a race car.
Kubitz races the No. 84 Wissota Hornet Sunday nights at Buffalo River Speedway near Glyndon. The other two nights? He is driving a tow truck for Fargo-Moorhead Towing at Norman County Raceway in Ada and Fix It Forward Speedway in West Fargo. Kubitz even helps with the tow truck at Buffalo River when he’s not racing.
It certainly provides a different perspective of racing.
“It’s fun – something different every week,” Kubitz said. “Plus you get involved in all the action. You learn something new every time.”
Kubitz has been dirt-track racing for eight years, starting in the hobby stocks for two years before moving into the hornets. He got his starting as a kid – ice racing.
“I’ve done that since I was 6-7 years old,” Kubitz said.
After spending two seasons in the hobby stocks, Kubitz moved into the Short Tracker/Hornet class in 2021, and has found a home in the class. He’s still looking for his first career feature win, but Kubitz has been a consistent performer in the hornets at Buffalo River.
He finished second in the points in 2023, third in 2024 and second again in 2025. Overall in 2025 he had six top fives, with a best finish of third at Buffalo River on July 20. After last year, he retired the Ford Escort he was driving and has switched to a bright yellow Chevy Cavalier for 2026.
“I thought it went well,” Kubitz said of 2026. “I’ve been top five in points the past few years. We’ll try a new car and see what happens.”

It’s an adjustment to the new car for Kubitz.
“It’s going to be different – a longer wheel base and heavier,” Kubitz said. “This one’s an automatic (transmission), that one was a manual.”
He’s raced six times in 2026 and has two top five finishes at Buffalo River. He sits second in the points at the 1/4-mile oval. But he’d like to snag that first feature win, too. He’s finished second three times.
“At least one – I tried for it last year but didn’t get it,” Kubitz said of chasing that win. “(This year), maybe get that first win and just have fun.”
For Kubitz, though, getting a feature win isn’t why he races weekly. It’s about the enjoyment and being around friends.
“Just having fun, seeing everybody and getting together,” Kubitz said. ““The racing family gets together. And we just have fun.”
