The Advantage RV Modified Tour kicks off tonight at I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls. Racing starts at 7 p.m. tonight. The Tour is presented by Watertown Ford Chrysler.
After tonight’s show, the Tour moves to Viking Speedway in Alexandria on Saturday and Granite City Speedway in Sauk Rapids on Sunday. There are 13 shows planned for the tour, including a four-night swing June 6-9 that starts at Grand Rapids Speedway.
Lake Shore, Minn., driver Dan Ebert was the 2018 tour champion; he finished with 1,232 points, with Shane Sabraski of Rice taking second.
There have been eight different champions in eight seasons — Kent Arment, Mike Stearns, Dave Cain, Dale Mathison, Andy Gordon, Dave Mass, Jeremy Nelson and Ebert. Cain, Arment and Stearns are all former Wissota Modified National champs; Mass is a multi-time Wissota Super Stock national champ. That list of eight drivers is impressive.
On a personal note I am glad to see the tour come back to this area. There are some high-caliber drivers who follow the RV Tour, and at tracks like I-94 and Viking among many others, there is good local competition ready to challenge the touring drivers. The modified racing is as good as you can find in this part of the country.
I credit founder/director Rueben Meyer for keeping this tour going, because it is really good for Wissota Modified racing. It’s tough to keep a tour going — the USMTS is even struggling for car counts — but Meyer has been steady in keeping it alive and I’ve talked to drivers — Dan Ebert last year — who are really happy to see it going.
