Aabrekke aiming for fun, consistency at Sheyenne in 2026

Dalton Aabrekke was like many in racing as a kid – he eventually wanted to drive a car himself. At the age of 17, thanks to the Bogart family, he got a chance to try.

“I wanted to since I was little,” Aabrekke said. “When I was 17 the Bogarts let use one of their minis to try out.”

He’s been hooked ever since. The 27-year-old from Lisbon races in the Hobby Stock class at Sheyenne Speedway, his hometown track.

Aabrekke has three career feature wins, including two in the Hobby Stock class at Sheyenne.

He started out in the Mini Stocks at Sheyenne and won his first career feature there on Aug. 22, 2021.

“It was fun to play around in the Mini, I was just out there to with the group of guys that we had,” Aabrekke said.

For a while, he did double duty, driving both a Hobby Stock and Mini Stock, before settling into the Hobby Stocks for good in 2022.

“Just trying to keep it clean, and keep the car underneath you,” Aabrekke said of racing a Hobby Stock.

It was that year he picked up his first Hobby Stock feature win.

“Getting my first Bomber win in 2022 was probably the most memorable because I had to hold off Jayden Michaelson who won all but 2 nights that year,” Aabrekke said.  “It was nice to get a Bomber win.”

Aabrekke has been a steady competitor in the Hobby Stocks at Sheyenne. He’s finished second in the point standings twice, including last year.  His 2025 season saw eight starts and one feature win on Aug. 21. The season didn’t end well with a blown transmission at the Jamestown Stampede, however.

“It was alright. I had good nights, I had bad nights. I’m not going to get down on the bad nights,” Aabrekke said.

On May 2, Aabrekke married his wife, Jennifer, and says the focus this year is on enjoying racing.

“Have fun, and race when I can,” Aabrekke said. “And consistency.”

On nights when he’s not behind the wheel at Sheyenne, he will be with the fire department in the infield, ready to assist if needed.

He eventually “would like to” move up to a different class, but for now, is doing just fine in the Hobby Stocks.

And he’s having fun driving a race car.

“I like everything about it,” Aabrekke said. “It’s just you and yourself out there. You get away from reality a little bit.”
