I made it to I-94 Sure Step Speedway for the annual King of the Dirt show. A terrific 177-car field was on hand aiming for the crown. I think I-94 is working to turn this into a big weekend annually. There were several campers in the lot. With Viking and Ogilvie taking the week off, the schedule sets up well. A few cars from the Madison/Montevideo area also pulled up as Madison cancelled for a second straight week. It was the second night of the Rebel Midwest Modified tour –

The Prelude to the Johnny attracted 44 late models to River Cities Speedway on Thursday night. There were good car counts in the Wissota Midwest Modifieds (29) and Wissota Street Stocks (32) as well. I thought the racing was terrific, and if that is a preview of what’s ahead, it should be a great weekend at River Cities. There were two races really going on with the late models — the Prelude feature, which paid $1,492 to win, and the NLRA Late Model point championship. Shane

RaceChaser was back at I-94 Sure Step Speedway for Fan Appreciation Night. There was a great crowd on hand as admission was only $5, plus a fireworks show was planned. IN fact I think it was the best crowd I’ve seen at I-94 this season. I-94 officials wisely did the fireworks show a little before 10 p.m., with three features remaining, allowing parents with young kids to see it before it got real late. We will start with the best race of the night, in the Wissota Modifieds.

The 14th annual John Seitz Memorial is set for Friday and Saturday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. The late model feature on Saturday pays $9,200 to win and $920 to start. On Friday the midwest modifieds and street stocks will run qualifying races while the Wissota Mods and NOSA Sprints will run complete shows. First, I want to commend all of those involved – workers at I-94, Wissota officials, volunteers, whoever – for getting the Wissota 100 in. I admit after the rain on Thursday and seeing how muddy the grounds were on Facebook photos, I thought getting this show in was a long shot.
